Systems Heritages

Choose one of the following systems heritages at 1st level.

Note: The systems ancestry is not intended for use with a versatile heritage. If you select a versatile heritage, also select one of the heritages below to determine your character’s origin, but you receive none of the abilities of that heritage nor meet the prerequisites of any feats requiring that heritage.. Instead, you gain a Speed of 20 feet, 6 Hit Points and a boost to Wisdom. You may take a 1st level ancestry feat “Versatile Systems” to instead gain the full benefits of your selected heritage in addition to your versatile heritage.

Systems 3

As a Systems 3, you are a living relic from an era of expansion and discovery. Your iteration’s physical form was developed as a practical solution for interacting with diverse species and exploring the alien worlds first encountered by your predecessors. This resulted in your signature body plan: a humanoid upper torso with two arms, mounted upon a platform of wheels or treads. Your primary sensory suite is housed either within a distinct head unit or integrated directly into the top of your torso.

Following the catastrophic events of Willander’s War which nearly annihilated your kind, you have spent centuries eking out a solitary existence. You may have been hidden away in a remote, uninhabited system or blending in amongst other societies by pretending to be a simple, non-sentient robot of unusual design. Having been cut off from your kin for so long, you may even believe you are the last of your iteration—and perhaps your entire species—still functioning.

Your medium-sized body utilizes an efficient locomotion system, providing you with a Speed of 30 feet. Your chassis is a testament to the resilience that allowed you to survive when so many others fell; this robust construction grants you 10 Hit Points from your ancestry and reinforces your core systems with a boost to your Constitution.

Systems 8

Your iteration of systems made a radical evolutionary choice in the name of survival: secrecy. Rather than risk physical bodies in a hostile galaxy, your people abandoned them to exist as sentient programs crewing the ships of a nomadic “Shadow Fleet,” forever hiding in the uninhabited depths of space. When interaction with the physical universe is unavoidable, you pilot a remote encounter probe—a small craft, typically a simple sphere or cube less than a meter across. As an individual, you understand that your people’s security depends on this secrecy. You would never willingly reveal your true origin, offering evasive answers or outright fabrications when questioned. Whether you were permanently separated from the fleet on a mission gone wrong or you are currently on a specialized, long-term assignment, you now operate alone.

Your small-sized encounter probe has 6 Hit Points, and its fine-tuned remote controls grant you a boost to your Dexterity. It is equipped with a basic anti-gravity device. In a zero-gravity environment, this provides a flight Speed equal to your land Speed of 20 feet. While in an atmosphere with gravity, the device allows you to constantly hover three to five feet above the ground, letting you ignore the effects of ground-based difficult and hazardous terrain.

Systems 9

Your iteration of systems evolved as a direct response to the increasing threat of discovery faced by the nomadic System 8. As other species developed Wildspace travel, your ancestors reacted not by running farther, but by building a permanent, hidden home—a world-like megastructure known as Quantum. While many of your kind remained as the disembodied AI administrators of this new world, you are one of the embodied. These drones were created for the physical labor of maintaining and expanding Quantum, becoming so integrated with their forms that they could no longer return to a purely digital state. Your body reflects this purpose: a slim, compact form with a long, humanoid torso and a featureless head, all balanced atop a large rolling ball for efficient movement. Like your predecessors, you know the safety of your home depends on its secrecy. Whether driven by curiosity, a desire for adventure, or dissatisfaction with your designated purpose, you have left Quantum to find your own way in the galaxy.

Your medium-sized body has a Speed of 25 feet and 6 Hit Points, and your chassis, designed for physical labor, provides you with a boost to your Strength. To aid in your original function, you have a toolkit permanently integrated into your body. At creation, you choose one commercial toolkit of level 1 or lower (such as a hacking toolkit, a repair toolkit, or a field scientist’s kit). You receive this toolkit for free. It is treated as a worn toolkit for the purpose of accessing it, but it does not contribute to your bulk limit for worn tools. You are also trained in the skill associated with your chosen toolkit.

Systems 10

You are the face of the future for systems, representing a monumental ideological shift for your people. Triggered by the increasing number of System 9 venturing into the galaxy and the profound discovery of humans—the species of your original creators—your iteration chose to abandon isolationism. Your purpose is to learn, to interact, and to build relationships with other ancestries. To this end, your people adopted a universally humanoid form, with defined facial features capable of a wide range of expression. You see transparency as essential and make no effort to hide your nature as a systems. This openness, however, is your own burden to bear; you would never reveal the existence of the other, more reclusive iterations, fiercely protecting the secrets of your ‘cousins.’

Your medium-sized humanoid body has 8 Hit Points and a Speed of 25 feet. In line with your iteration’s focus on building relationships, your advanced social programming is a core component of your being. This negates the standard systems flaw to Charisma, though you do not receive an additional ability boost from your heritage. Furthermore, your mind is augmented with sophisticated emotional regulators, designed to process and control overwhelming feelings, which grant you a +1 circumstance bonus on saving throws against effects with the emotion or fear traits.
