Elaxis is a high-tech, magitech-heavy world located in a strategic corridor between the Xylan Stratocracy and the Riadian Coalition. Known for its vibrant purple retinalous flora and towering coastal arcologies, it is a primary hub of galactic trade and proprietary innovation. Despite its dense population, the planet maintains a rigorous ecological preservation mandate, keeping the majority of its tropical archipelagos in a pristine, pre-industrial state.

Star System

Elaxis orbits a symbiotic binary star system officially charted as the O’zaam system. The primary body is a massive, bright yellow G-type star named O’zaam Prime, while its companion is a smaller, glowing white-blue stellar remnant known as O’zaam Proxima.

Two Suns

In the local Elaxian vernacular, the binary stars are affectionately referred to as “Oz” and “Zammie.” The two stars share a tight barycentric orbit, periodically exchanging streamers of luminous plasma. When this stellar material exchange flares up, the light filtering through Elaxis’s atmosphere shifts dynamically, causing the daytime sky to wash in shifting hues of violet, burning orange, and teal.

The Moons of Elaxis

The Violet Gem is orbited by five natural satellites: two larger primary moons and three smaller captured asteroids. The two primary moons are Auros (a large, highly reflective satellite with a pale gold hue that bathes the night in soft light) and Skepsis (a rocky, cratered moon roughly half the size of Auros, appearing in the sky as a dark lilac sphere). Further out in the planet’s orbit, three captured asteroid-moons—Cys, Tan, and Rho—travel in a rapid, synchronized cluster. They are too small to present a visible disc to the naked eye, appearing only as incredibly bright, fast-moving stars that streak across the celestial sphere.

Geography

Elaxis is a predominantly aquatic world, with warm, mineral-rich oceans covering approximately 80% of its surface. The remaining landmass is divided into five distinct continental regions. Three of these are major landmasses surrounded by smaller island chains: Aethelia (the sprawling equatorial heartland and seat of Starlight City), Nyxia (a rugged, mountainous northern continent), and Ophidia (a sweeping southern expanse famous for its colorful litho-fungal coastal reefs). These three massive regions are the traditional, native homes of the Elaxian people.

The other two “continents” are actually vast, interconnected collections of smaller landmasses. Lycanthis, an isolated, rocky, and densely forested minor continent in the northern hemisphere, is the adopted home of the native Wulfen population. To the far east, scattered across a vast expanse of open ocean, lies The Kasumi Reach, sometimes referred to as the Misty Isles, an extensive, labyrinthine archipelago that serves as the native territory of the planet’s Vesperian population. Across all these regions, the climate is remarkably stable, with the majority of the land leaning toward tropical with more temperate areas near the poles. Sharp, rocky elevations in the inland areas provide a sudden shift to colder, misty environments just miles from the beaches. The world’s flora is strikingly retinalous, painting the expansive, legally protected jungles in deep, vibrant shades of purple.

Euphoric Atmosphere

While Elaxis boasts a standard breathable atmosphere, it contains an unusual mix of trace gases, notably including nitrous oxide (N2O). While the concentration is entirely harmless and poses no long-term health risks, visitors to Elaxis frequently report experiencing unexplained sensations of mild euphoria, elevated mood, or a perpetual minor “high” during their stay. Native residents and long-term immigrants do not experience this sensation, having fully adapted to the atmospheric mixture over generations. Medical professionals and sociologists remain divided on whether the N2O concentration is actually high enough to cause this physiological reaction, or if the “Elaxian High” is simply a psychological trick—a powerful placebo effect brought on by the planet’s breathtaking beauty, neon-drenched nightlife, and hyped-up tourism propaganda.

History

Long before their skies were filled with the sleek hulls of interstellar freighters, the native Elaxians had already achieved a highly advanced, industrialized civilization. Driven by an early, fierce dedication to ecological preservation, they had already transitioned away from sprawling urban footprints, developing the foundations of their towering magitech arcologies to protect their world’s retinalous jungles. However, despite their sophisticated domestic technology and mastery of local arcana, they had not yet cracked the secret of faster-than-light travel, leaving them isolated within the O’zaam system until the galaxy came to them.

First Contact

First contact was established when scout vessels from the Riadian Coalition recognized Elaxis’s unparalleled strategic value. Positioned as a vital crossroads between the Coalition, the Xylan Stratocracy, the Unbroken Chain, and the Himmingar Dominion, the planet was the perfect waypoint. The initial colonization followed a traditional, aggressive model: Coalition forces largely ignored the native population, viewing the expansive “empty” jungles as open territory. They immediately began clearing land to construct a massive starport, a military base, and a sprawling support town.

This blatant disregard for the Elaxians’ mandate of ecological preservation triggered an immediate and violent conflict. The natives launched a series of brutal, high-tech insurgencies against the Coalition’s construction zones. However, recognizing that they could not win a prolonged war against a galactic power, the Elaxian leadership pivoted to a masterstroke of pragmatism. They appealed to the Coalition’s logistical needs, offering a trade: in exchange for access to the Coalition’s advanced interstellar technology, the Elaxians would serve as a specialized workforce, building the necessary military infrastructure the “correct” way to preserve the biosphere and modernizing their own cities to house their new neighbors. Seeing this as a faster, more viable path to securing the frontier, the Coalition agreed. Elaxis was effectively transformed into a massive, heavily fortified military staging ground, serving as the Coalition’s primary shield against outside threats like the Unbroken Chain.

The Technate War and the Orc Occupation

The Coalition presence was a distasteful occupation, which Elaxians endured to acquire human technology. When the Technate War pulled Coalition forces away, the Unbroken Chain—a brutal orc alliance—seized the planet. Their decade-long occupation was defined by extreme violence and atrocities. Orc forces enslaved thousands of Elaxians and humans for off-world deportation and ignored all preservation mandates, stripping protected regions for resources and causing the first major environmental devastation in the planet’s history.

Stratocracy Liberation

Following the Technate War, a recovering Coalition remained unable to reclaim the O’zaam system. The Xylan Stratocracy, engaged in a separate, extended conflict with the Unbroken Chain, liberated Elaxis to push orc forces away from Stratocracy territory. Under Xylan rule, Elaxis avoided further colonization or military basing but was forced to pay heavy taxes and tributes in exchange for protection. Though the Elaxians found the Stratocracy less accommodating than the Coalition, they accepted the arrangement as a necessary price for security.

Independence

Under Stratocracy rule, Elaxis entered a period of rapid industrialization, blending ancient local magic with acquired interstellar technology to create unique magitech. As the planet prospered, leaders continuously petitioned for independence. They eventually convinced the Stratocracy that an autonomous Elaxis—functioning as a neutral industrial powerhouse—would be a greater strategic and economic asset to the Core Worlds than a taxed territory. Persuaded by this argument, the Stratocracy relented and granted Elaxis its independence.

Recent History

Within the past few decades, a hyper-prosperous and fiercely independent Elaxis realized the necessity of a broader diplomatic shield to protect its massive wealth. In a calculated move, the planet officially rejoined the Riadian Coalition as a full member state. However, they flexed their immense economic leverage to dictate their own terms, strictly maintaining open borders and highly lucrative trade agreements with the Xylan Stratocracy in addition to opening new agreements within the Coalition. Today, Elaxis possesses the wealth, technology, and strategic positioning to wield massive political influence within the Coalition’s senate. Yet, by design, the Corporate Directorate chooses to remain politically neutral, focusing all of its energy on maintaining its status as the most pristine, technologically advanced, and profitable trade hub in the known galaxy.

Government

The Elaxian Civil Authority (ECA) is the planet’s centralized governing body. It operates as a legislative and regulatory agency, managing interstellar diplomacy, global infrastructure, and the planetary legal framework. Lacking a standing military, the ECA functions primarily as a mediator to ensure the corporate economy remains within established ecological and legal boundaries.

The Corporate Oligarchy

Operational power is concentrated in the “Big Seven” tech conglomerates and their subsidiaries. While the ECA establishes global law, these corporations are responsible for enforcement within their own arcologies and districts. Each conglomerate maintains private, augmented security forces and internal judicial systems, effectively functioning as a sovereign entity within its sphere of influence.

The Consumer Concord

The primary check on corporate overreach is the organized economic activism of the Elaxian populace. Utilizing high-speed social networks, citizens coordinate planet-wide boycotts against corporations that violate labor standards or ecological mandates. This practice of “voting with credits” forces the oligarchy to prioritize worker satisfaction and environmental preservation to maintain market viability.

Economy

The economy of Elaxis is an absolute juggernaut, functioning as a hyper-capitalist corporate oligarchy entirely fueled by its proprietary innovations. Because the planet strictly enforces “Closed Patent” laws—meaning Elaxian technology cannot be legally manufactured or reverse-engineered off-world—The Violet Gem is the ultimate destination for the galaxy’s elite consumers. The economy is not built on the extraction of raw materials, but rather on the export of ideas, data, and culture. The primary pillars of the Elaxian market are cutting-edge high-tech, sophisticated magitech integration, and a massive, highly lucrative performing arts and entertainment sector. The metal-edged synthwave culture that pulses through Starlight City is not just a local aesthetic; it is a meticulously monetized cultural export that draws billions of tourism credits every standard year.

The Ecology of Profit

In most corporate-ruled societies, the environment and the working class are the first things to be exploited. On Elaxis, the exact opposite is true, though the motivation remains purely financial. Because the highly educated populace wields their spending power as a devastating political weapon, corporate adherence to ecological preservation and worker well-being is not a matter of altruism—it is a matter of survival. The Elaxian market operates on “The Ecology of Profit.” A corporation caught polluting the retinalous jungles or failing to provide a luxurious standard of living for its employees will face an instantaneous, planet-wide boycott. As a result, corporations aggressively compete to prove they are the most eco-friendly and pro-worker, investing trillions of credits into carbon-negative arcologies, comprehensive employee wellness programs, and the maintenance of the litho-fungal reefs simply to maintain their market share.

The Titans of Industry

The Elaxian market is dominated by the “Big Seven” conglomerates, which oversee the planet’s primary industrial and commercial sectors.

  • Eclipse Innovations: A high-tech R&D firm and the only member of the “Big Seven” owned by off-worlders following its acquisition by Nexus Industries. Eclipse specializes in advanced software development, including AI-integrated applications and digital security tools for both civilian and corporate defense sectors.
  • Choice Harmonics: A leading magitech firm focusing on the entertainment and performing arts industries. The company manufactures specialized arcane-acoustic instruments, holographic stage projectors, and neural-interface recording hardware.
  • Spire Synthetics: The primary architectural firm responsible for Elaxis’s vertical expansion. It produces bio-engineered building materials that maintain structural integrity while actively scrubbing trace toxins from the atmosphere to preserve urban air quality.
  • Helix Communications: An advanced networking corporation that maintains the planetary “Grid” and manages high-speed interplanetary communication arrays.
  • Turbo Bio-Labs: A biotechnology firm specializing in genetically modified organisms designed for extraterrestrial environments. The company is a leading producer of advanced prosthetic limbs and generates the majority of the planet’s synthetic meat supply.
  • Floralux Dynamic: An agricultural firm that manages the planet’s food supply through high-density vertical farming, utilizing skyscraper-sized towers to produce grains and fresh produce within urban centers.
  • Mondyne: The primary provider of planetary energy infrastructure and transportation hardware. Monodyne manufactures the standardized magitech power cells that fuel Elaxian technology and produces the vast majority of the “sky-lane” grav-vehicles and orbital shuttles used within the arcologies. It is currently expanding into interstellar craft with experimental feydrive engines.

Inhabitants

Elaxis has a sentient population of approximately 14.3 billion. The planet serves as a major cosmopolitan hub, attracting immigrants through its advanced magitech industry, vibrant performing arts scene, and high standard of living. Despite high urban density, the world is characterized by its successful integration of extreme technological development and rigorous ecological preservation.

Elaxians

Comprising roughly 68% of the population, native Elaxians are the dominant demographic in the planet’s corporate and cultural sectors. They maintain a strong cultural identity centered on the preservation of the global biosphere. Elaxians are characterized by high levels of political engagement, frequently utilizing collective economic action to enforce ethical and ecological standards on the corporate oligarchy.

Humans

Humans represent 14% of the population and are the largest immigrant group. Originally arriving during the Coalition colonization era, they are well-integrated into the planetary economy. Human residents are most frequently employed as corporate diplomats, executives, independent merchants, and security contractors.

Kassyns

Accounting for 8% of the inhabitants, Kassyns are a humanoid ancestry physically similar to native Elaxians. They are prominent in high-tech research and development and the arts. Many Kassyns are drawn to Elaxis for its aesthetic culture, often holding leadership positions in Starlight City’s entertainment and fashion industries.

Bots

Sentient Bots make up 3% of the recognized population and are granted full citizenship with the same civil rights and opportunities as organic inhabitants. However, they are outnumbered more than two-to-one by non-sentient automatons. These non-sentient units serve as manual laborers, domestic servants, and industrial workers; they are classified as property rather than citizens and are not included in official population census data.

Anemonians

Anemonians comprise 2% of the population. While native to gas giants, they utilize the pressurized, climate-controlled environments of Elaxian arcologies as suitable habitats. Significant Anemonian communities also reside in the planet’s mineral-rich oceans, utilizing expansive underwater settlements away from the primary surface cities.

Other Inhabitants

Native Vesperian and Wulfen populations collectively represent approximately 1% of the total census. These groups primarily reside outside the urban arcologies, maintaining traditional, low-tech societies within legally protected territories. The Wulfen inhabit the dense, rocky jungles of the Lycanthis continent, while the Vesperians are concentrated in the labyrinthine islands of the Kasumi Reach. Both ancestries prioritize ecological symbiosis and have largely rejected the planet’s dominant hyper-capitalist and magitech lifestyles.

The remaining demographic percentage is composed of a diverse array of immigrant ancestries and specialized populations. This includes significant communities of Dwarves, Orcs, Zentians, and Myrians, as well as rarer populations such as the Awakened Mnemosyne, Nesthai, and Xayliths. These groups are primarily found within the cosmopolitan districts of the major arcologies, contributing to the planet’s status as a premier hub for galactic trade and innovation.

Fauna

With 96% of the planet’s landmass designated as protected wilderness, Elaxis supports a diverse and specialized ecosystem. Notable native species include:

  • Trox: A stocky, bipedal herbivore characterized by its dense, muscular frame and thick, elastic skin. It possesses a massive cranial structure and a short, powerful tail that aids in balance during rapid locomotion. Despite its ponderous appearance, its columnar legs allow for startling bursts of speed across varied terrain. The trox serves as the primary multi-purpose domesticate in rural regions, utilized for heavy labor, long-distance transport, and as a primary source of protein.
  • Plumefish: A large, amphibious aquatic species distinguished by its expansive, veil-like fins and iridescent, multi-hued scales. Utilizing a specialized dual-respiratory system, the plumefish thrives in warm coastal waters but is capable of surviving for extended periods in high-humidity terrestrial environments. By generating significant aquatic thrust, it can breach the surface and use its elongated pectoral fins to glide through the lower jungle canopy to hunt arboreal prey.
  • Amber Shrike: A small but aggressive avian predator that is easily identified by its shimmering, translucent golden plumage and sharp, hooked beak. It possesses unique wing musculature that allows for high-frequency flapping, enabling the creature to hover with stationary precision. This hovering produces a distinct, low-frequency rhythmic thrumming—a noticeable “thump-thump-thump”—audible to anyone in the immediate vicinity. From a hover, the shrike executes high-velocity strikes against its prey with blinding speed.

Technology & Magic

Elaxian technology is defined by the seamless fusion of arcane magic and advanced microelectronics. The planet’s corporations are the galaxy’s leading developers of proprietary magitech, a discipline that integrates spellcraft directly into microprocessors and arcane wards into cybernetic nervous systems. Due to strict “Closed Patent” regulations, the highest tiers of this technology are restricted to the planetary surface, resulting in a standard of living and technological integration significantly more advanced than that of the surrounding Core Worlds.

Neon Streets

The urban arcologies of Elaxis are characterized by a state of perpetual illumination. In the most urban areas, the dark of night is offset by high-density holographic advertisements and high-intensity lighting in artificial shades of magenta, cyan, and electric gold. Transportation is primarily handled via multi-level sky-lanes filled with high-velocity grav-vehicles and commuter shuttles. The urban environment is further defined by a constant, low-frequency rhythmic audio presence—a cultural staple characterized by heavy bass and synthesized melodies that permeate public and private spaces alike.

Magitech

Magitech on Elaxis extends beyond industrial applications into every facet of daily life. The integration of cybernetic and arcane augmentations is nearly universal among the native population. Standard enhancements include neural interfaces for direct data-linkage to the planetary “Grid,” optical implants with integrated diagnostic overlays, and high-performance synthetic limbs utilizing arcane-actuated fiber optics.

This fusion is equally prevalent in domestic environments. “Smart” devices, from personal apparel to residential architecture, are woven with arcane circuitry and managed by sophisticated, magically-augmented Artificial Intelligences. These AIs utilize spell-logic to optimize processing speed and security, managing everything from automated home maintenance and health monitoring to the coordination of real-time consumer boycotts. This pervasive digital and arcane infrastructure ensures the populace remains perpetually synchronized with the global economy.

Religion

To the average modern Elaxian, formal religion holds very little sway, taking a distant back seat to corporate loyalty, technological advancement, and various cultural trends. However, in their pre-industrial days, the native islanders held a deep reverence for Nadurra, whose tempestuous nature mirrored their vast, ocean-covered homeworld. There remain devoted pockets of modern followers who worship Lyra, seeing the planet’s staggering performing arts scene and neon-drenched aesthetics as the ultimate modern expression of her divine inspiration. Among the Vesperian and Wulfen populations living outside the arcologies, faith takes a much more grounded form; both ancestries tend to revere Feilona, seamlessly weaving her aspects of nature into their daily lives and survival rather than practicing any formal, organized worship.

As Elaxis exploded into a galactic trade hub, millions of immigrants brought their own faiths with them, quietly integrating foreign shrines into the commercial levels of the corporate arcologies. It is quite common to find small sanctuaries dedicated to Nomos, frequented by the myriad of starship crews, merchants, and wildspace navigators passing through the system. Similarly, the imposing, unyielding doctrine of Aureon has found a strong foothold among the planet’s corporate magistrates, private security contractors, and the Human immigrants who seek order amidst the cutthroat corporate espionage.

Languages

The linguistic landscape of Elaxis is dominated by Elaxian, the native tongue of the planet’s majority population. Fluency in Elaxian is a standard prerequisite for high-level corporate employment and is the primary language utilized in the planet’s proprietary magitech markets.

Common (formally known as Riadian Standard) serves as the universal bridge for interstellar trade and tourism. A legacy of the Coalition colonization era, it is the most prevalent second language on the planet. Most public signage, digital interfaces, and automated transit systems utilize a bilingual format of Elaxian and Common to accommodate the diverse immigrant and tourist populations.

Within the legally protected wilderness territories, native populations utilize specialized languages. Sylvan is the primary tongue of the Vesperians and often serves as a trade language between different regional tribes. The Wulfen utilize their own distinct dialect, Wulfen, for internal communication. Additionally, Verdantic—the language of the Plane of Wood—is maintained as a sacred liturgical tongue by spiritual leaders and traditionalists for performing rituals and communing with the planet’s unique flora.

Visiting Elaxis

Elaxis is a primary galactic hub for tourism, commerce, and transit. Despite the planet’s proprietary technological secrets, the Elaxian Civil Authority (ECA) maintains open-border policies to facilitate interplanetary trade. Visitors frequent the planet for its luxury resorts, holographic entertainment districts, and regulated eco-tourism within the retinalous jungles. Due to its strategic location, it serves as a frequent stopover for long-haul interstellar journeys, as well as a destination for those seeking immigration or visiting family within established immigrant communities.

A significant portion of travel to Elaxis is driven by the planet’s “Closed Patent” laws, which mandate that proprietary magitech and cybernetics be purchased directly from authorized planetary distributors. This necessitates “shopping pilgrimages” by corporations and private contractors seeking the galaxy’s most advanced hardware and AI operating systems.
